History
Cobb Christmas, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), all
volunteer organization that was started in 1963 by The Center
for Family Resources (then known as the Cobb County Emergency
Aid Association, Inc.) to assist the low-income and working poor
families of Cobb County at Christmas time. The early years were
made possible through community involvement from groups like the
American Legion, the Cobb Jaycees and the United Way of Cobb County. Eventually the Christmas program branched out on its own in
1978 and incorporated in 1980. Since its founding, Cobb Christmas
has provided gifts of food and new toys to thousands of disadvantaged
children in Cobb County.

How the Program Works
Families seeking holiday assistance are carefully pre-screened for eligibility jointly by The Center for Family Resources (CFR) and the Cobb County Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS). Many of these families are current clients of one of these social service organizations. To qualify, families must be residents of Cobb County, meet low income requirements, and have dependent children eighteen years or younger living in the household. Qualifying families are provided with an appointment time during mid-December to come and pick-up their gifts. The distribution event is held at Jim Miller Park and managed by the Cobb Christmas Board of Directors with the help of hundreds of volunteers who sort food, stuff stockings, select toys and pack gifts. Each family receives at least a box of food, a gift certificate to a grocery store, and four new toys and a filled Christmas stocking for each child. To maximize limited resources, Cobb Christmas coordinates with other county-wide holiday assistance programs to ensure that there is no duplication of services among the client population.
